Encountering severe and\ntime-sensitive problems outside of your dentist\u2019s normal hours of operations\nwill most likely require you to see an emergency dentist. Here\u2019s what you can\ndo in the interim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For a knocked-out tooth, be sure to keep it moist by\nattempting to either place it back in its socket, in between your cheek and\ngums, or in milk. While you\u2019re attempting this, do not touch the root of your\ntooth. Try to get to your dentist\u2019s office within an hour because reattachment\nof your tooth may be possible, but there\u2019s a limited window of time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For a cracked tooth, rinse your mouth with warm water to\nclean it. If you\u2019re experiencing facial swelling, apply a cold compress to keep\nit down. Also, for severe toothaches, rinse your mouth with warm water and\ngently attempt to maneuver dental floss between your teeth to catch any food\ndebris that may be causing the pain. It\u2019s important to remember not to use\naspirin because it may burn your gum tissue. Instead, use acetaminophen or\nibuprofen.
