When you have a damaged or decayed tooth, you’ll naturally want to get a dental crown to repair it as soon as possible. While the traditional approach would normally require you to wait a few weeks while your crown is designed and created at an off-site dental lab, we can substantially speed up the entire process with the CEREC system. Why bother with a temporary restoration when the permanent one can be made on the same day? To learn more about CEREC crowns, contact Marvel Dental today.
CEREC stands for “chairside economical restoration of esthetic ceramics.” It’s the name of a computer-aided system that can design and manufacture high-quality dental crowns in as little as 15 minutes. The machine will mill your new crown out of a block of ceramic based on digital scans of your mouth; said ceramic can be shaded so that it matches the color of your natural teeth.
CEREC crowns are a benefit for both patients and dentists since they greatly cut down the number of appointments needed to place a restoration. Feel free to ask about CEREC if you need to have a crown placed.
The major difference between CEREC crowns and traditional crowns is the procedure. Under normal circumstances, a dentist would have to take an impression of your mouth using an uncomfortable and messy dental putty. The impression would then be sent to the lab where the crown is created. It would typically take a matter of weeks for the crown to be made, and in the meantime, you would have to wear a temporary one. Eventually, you would need to make a second appointment to receive your finalized restoration.
By contrast, the CEREC system used to create same-day crowns is much more straightforward. Instead of putty, we will take a digital scan of your mouth. The data from that scan will be fed into the CEREC machine, which will then proceed to create the crown out of ceramic. Once it’s finished, we can make any necessary adjustments to ensure that it fits properly and looks natural in your mouth. Once all the preparations are made, your beautiful new crown will be firmly cemented to your tooth. You can normally expect the entire visit to last a couple of hours.
